Nicollet to New Ulm project remains on track

In case you missed it, the Mankato Free Press published an update on the progress of the Nicollet to New Ulm project last month. Despite adjustments to their working processes in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, MnDOT staff have kept the project on track.

It has now been nearly three months since the Legislature passed a bill to allow MnDOT to take steps to apply for a low-interest federal loan that will enable the completion of the four-lane expansion of Highway 14 from Nicollet to New Ulm. MnDOT is putting the finishing touches on that federal loan application and will submit it as soon as we learn the fate of a $50 million federal INFRA grant that MnDOT has also applied for to fund the expansion. Whether or not this grant application is successful will help determine the amount of the federal loan MnDOT seeks, and we should learn more as soon as this month.
